Adelaide United has suffered another injury setback with striker Mathew Leckie set to miss the Reds’ home game against Queensland Roar on Friday with a hamstring strain.
The injury will also rule him out of the Qantas Young Socceroos squad for the upcoming AFC Under-19 Championship 2010 Qualifiers in Indonesia.
The setback is untimely for Leckie, who scored a goal against the Fury back in Round 8, and has been making his mark with a string of impressive performances with the Reds.
However, with a FIFA Match Day break following this weekend’s Hyundai A-League round of matches, it gives Leckie added time to recover and attempt to be available for the home match against Gold Coast United on Friday, November 20.
Leckie suffered the injury during last Saturday night’s goalless stalemate with the Central Coast Mariners in Canberra.
Adelaide United Doctor James Ilic said they were taking a conservative approach with the teenager.
“It is not a major strain, more mild to moderate, but any strain still needs to be managed properly,” Ilic said.
United will be hoping they can replace Leckie with Cassio after the Brazilian missed last week’s contest against the Mariners with a stiff back.
Key midfielder Paul Reid is still a week away from resuming with a calf injury.
