German midfielder Daniel Adlung believes Adelaide United’s loss to Sydney FC on Sunday could be a blessing in disguise, as long as the Reds learn from the crushing defeat.
Adelaide’s three-game unbeaten run came to a shuddering half at Allianz Stadium as the Sky Blues recorded an impressive 3-0 victory.
While the visitors were in the contest early on, once Matt Simon gave Sydney FC the lead just before the break there was only going to be one winner.
Brazilian Bobo then scored two more goals – his 24th and 25th of the campaign – to end the Reds’ top-four hopes.
“We’re disappointed but against Sydney FC you can lose and they played really good,” Adlung said.
“I think we started the game not too bad the first ten, fifteen minutes we played very good.
“But after fifteen minutes we lose the control and they take the game so it was difficult on Sunday and also another experience for us for the future and also for the finals.
“Maybe we play them again so we know the style of how they play and we have to improve ourselves.”
While Adelaide will now have to go on the road for the opening week of the Finals Series, Adlung is adamant they can still be a force in this competition.
“I think everything is possible because if you want to make the grand final you have to win two games,” he said.
“So probably it would be better to play the first game at home but even away we can win games and we showed that in the past.
“So we are preparing for the first match of the finals and we want to win for sure.”
The Reds end the regular season with another trip to Sydney, taking on the Wanderers on Sunday at ANZ Stadium.
