Adelaide United winger Danny Choi is confident he can fill the void left by injured forward Henrique if called upon by coach Guillermo Amor ahead of the Reds’ Round 4 match away to Melbourne City on Friday night.
Choi made his debut for the Reds against Melbourne Victory at the weekend, replacing fellow speedster Ryan Kitto, after moving from NSW NPL side Blacktown City.
The 21-year-old made an impressive cameo appearance in the Round 3 clash – hitting the post from a venomous low drive and showcased his sheer pace on the flank.
“I didn’t get too much game time, but I was happy I got on the field and it was great to play well,” Choi said.
“I thought it (the shot) was going in as well and obviously most of the supporters thought it was going in but it hit the post so it was unlucky.”
And with the Reds suffering another injury blow, following the club confirming Henrique would miss up to six weeks with a knee problem, Choi is optimistic he can take his opportunity.
“Personally it’s an opportunity for me and all the young boys, if they get the chance too they deserve it,” Choi said.
“I’m just going to work hard in training and we’ll see what happens.
“You don’t always get much of an opportunity, but if it comes I’ll be happy and try to take my chance.”
Choi also revealed he was enjoying training and commended the level of intensity, compared to playing semi-professionally.
“The training is really good here and the coaching staff are great.
“The intensity is just another level and I’m really enjoying getting used to it and hopefully improve (my football).

“Training I think is one of the biggest step ups (between semi-professional and professional football).
“We train everyday as I said the high intensity, after training we are tired so yeah it’s good.”
Turning his attention to Friday’s clash, Choi praised City’s strength in depth, but is confident Adelaide can get something from the game, if they can continue to replicate their promising outings.
“Obviously this year they’ve (Melbourne City) recruited really well and they’re a very strong side, so I think it well be a good game,” Choi continued.
“I think if we play our game, then definitely I think we can get something out of it.”
Adelaide United will face Melbourne City in Round 4 of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season on Friday, 28 October at AAMI. Kick-off is at 7.20pm ACDT.
