Reds defender Nigel Boogaard and midfielder Marcelo Carrusca have expressed their excitement at being selected as members of the inaugural Foxtel A-League All Stars squad to play Manchester United.

Boogaard said it was a privilege to be picked in the All Stars team and is looking forward to taking on the reigning English Premier League Champions.

“It-s a massive buzz, definitely unexpected, and hopefully I can do enough during the week to get a spot on the field, and hopefully do my job.

“It-s a massive experience for myself and definitely a privilege to be there”.

Although Boogaard, a Chelsea FC man at heart, is used to playing in – and not against red – he-s looking forward to the challenge.

“If you play for Manchester United you-re a quality player, so it will be tough regardless who plays, because you have the likes of Van Persie or Rooney – it will be a massive challenge”.

Marcelo Carrusca has been hand picked by All Stars Coach Ange Postecoglou, and is excited to be able to play against such a fantastic team with players of such experience.

Carrusca said “I am very lucky to get to be on the same pitch as one of the best midfielders in the world – Ryan Giggs. I am very happy to be a part of this game”.

Boogaard also expressed how great it was for the FFA and Foxtel to have the initiative to come up with the All-Stars concept, Boogaard said “It-s lifting the profile of the game in the country and it-s great going forward.”

The Foxtel A-League All Stars will play Manchester United at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday 20th July, with the match to be broadcast live and exclusive on the Seven Network nationally.
