Reds defeat Alice Springs Allstars

Adelaide United FC warmed up its Northern Territory visit with a 10-0 win against the Alice Springs All Stars on Thursday night in Alice Springs.

The Red’s possession game was on display as majority of the game the ball was at the feet of the Adelaide United players.

Bruce Kamau opened the scoring after excellent lead up play, which finished off with an Isiais through ball in the eighth minute.

The first half was predominantly played in the Reds half which eventually lead to a further two goals.

Reds captain of the night, Bruce Djite scored a wonderful goal to make it 2-0 after an All Star error and then Awer Mabil drilled another in the 31st minute.

After the break, substitute Jimmy Jeggo outpaced two All Star opponents to nail another just 90 seconds into the second half and then set up Cirio moments later for the Reds 5th of the match.

Kamau got his brace after firing from the edge of the box. This was then followed by an Elsey header which made it goal number seven.

New Spanish recruit Pablo Sánchez joined in immediately after coming on. He set up Ochieng before adding his own.

Dylan Smith then made it double figures seconds away from the final whistle.

While pleased with the score line, head coach Josep Gombau was satisfied with his players and their performance.

“For us it wasn’t about the result. We’ve come here to promote football in Northern Territory but at the same time improve as a team,” said Gomabu

“I am happy with the game and our players. The younger players got good game time and really performed. The plan is for all players to share the minutes and at the end of the camp, I want everyone to have the same amount of minutes.

“Camps like these are good, not only for the local community but for our players. We stay together in the camp, where we can share moments and the new players can adjust to team and the environment.

“It was a good opportunity for the local players of Alice Springs. We are pleased with the night and grateful they had this experience.”
