Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s newest recruit Seyi Adeleke may not link up with the squad in time for the start of the Hyundai A-League season due to immigration issues.
Adeleke remains stranded in his native Nigeria as he awaits a clearance from Australian immigration authorities to come to Sydney due to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
While the player is fine, the outbreak of the deadly disease means there are strict quarantine measures in place, delaying the left-back’s arrival in the country.
Wanderers’ officials will be given the all clear shortly but concede there is no timeline on when he will fly in.
“We’re waiting for him to come across, and obviously we’re keen to have him here as quickly as possible,” Wanderers CEO John Tsatismus told the Daily Telegraph.
“But obviously the Ebola outbreak has had implications all over the world and has held things up for him.
“His health side of things is absolutely fine, it’s just the administrative disruption that has occurred.
“It’s just a matter for the immigration authorities now, and understandably they are being cautious in all these cases.”
Adeleke joined the Wanderers from Italian giants Lazio and decided to return home to see family in Nigeria before coming to Sydney.
The 22-year-old, who had five years with Lazio, also had loan spells at FC Biel-Bienne in Switzerland and Italian clubs Salernitana and Pergocrema.
