The Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League clubs will celebrate the annual rebel Play Football Round this weekend, which is part of the rebel Play Football campaign that encourages junior football participation and registration across the country for the upcoming grassroots season.
rebel Play Football Round coincides with Round 18 of the Hyundai A-League and although there is an international break in the Westfield W-League 2019/20 Season at that time, the Westfield W-League clubs will also be activating over the weekend too.
This year Round 18 of the Hyundai A-League will truly be a blockbuster round featuring three (3) derbies: The Melbourne Derby (Melbourne City FC v Melbourne Victory – Friday 7 February), The Sydney Derby (Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers FC – Saturday 8 February), and the F3 Derby (Newcastle Jets v Central Coast Mariners – Sunday 9 February)
FFA Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, is looking forward to the annual celebration of grassroots football.

ROUND 17: Who made the Team of the Week?
“Each year we hold the rebel Play Football Round which connects the professional level of our game (Hyundai A-League & Westfield W-League) to the grassroots level,” said O’Rourke.
“Over the past few seasons we have worked with all our clubs to provide meaningful connections between our grassroots participants and the Hyundai A-League & Westfield W-League.
“This weekend we will also see some of the most anticipated matches in the Hyundai A-League with three local derbies which I am sure will provide the perfect opportunity for football fans to see the unique atmosphere that only the Hyundai A-League can provide.
“There are many young grassroots players who aspire to be professional footballers and this weekend we get to showcase the pathway and what’s possible in our game, an ability to follow the same steps from grassroots player to the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League and beyond,” concluded O’Rourke.
As part of rebel Play Football Round, all Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League clubs have an offer available for all 2020 junior players when registering for the upcoming grassroots season that grants access to Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League matches (see playfootball.com.au for more details).
