It was a case of not knowing whether to laugh or cry for A-League coaches Mark Rudan and Richard Garcia as their Western United and Perth Glory sides played out a crazy eight-goal second half in Saturday’s 5-4 win for United.
It seemed a unique 45-minute spell where all tactics, instruction and principle went out the window for United and Glory as eight goals flew into the net in the second half at Geelong, breaking a new A-League record in the process.
Steven Lustica’s 84th minute strike settled the affair after United three times spurned their half time advantage before the dust ultimately settled.
“I kept looking over my shoulder at Jamie Maclaren and he was having a laugh,” Rudan told FOX Sports post-match.’
“At 4-4, I turned to Richie Garcia and said, ‘mate, we’re part of something that’s going to be re-run for the next 20-years.
“We just had a laugh and a chuckle.”

Rudan added: “The most important thing is that we got through an incredible game.
“You can go through all the what-ifs and all the scenarios and explain to all the players whats required but its a behaviour – that wasn’t tactical, it’s a behaviour and that’s what disappointed me the most because we just weren’t there.
“We almost waited for them to get that goal for us to get into gear again. That will be spoken about because I’m pretty big on habits and behaviours and I think that’s the most important thing. “
United temporarily go sixth thanks to their first three points of the season.
Perth Glory, meanwhile have scored nine goals and conceded seven in just two games of football this campaign, having ousted Adelaide United 5-3 midweek.
