Farewell a legend. A hero calls it a day on the final home game of the season

Farewell a legend. A hero calls it a day on the final home game of the season. Be there to send him off in style.
The Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season started so well for Perth Glory. Opening their campaign with three wins and two draws, they were being touted as surprise title contenders. Then, they came up against Cold Coast United. Despite playing well, they were unable to break down a superbly-organised United defence and fell to their first loss in the shape of a goal from Jason Culina.
It proved to be a seminal moment – albeit an early one – in their season. From then on, they fell to seven straight defeats in a winless run that reaped just one point from a possible 30.
While their form has since picked up slightly – for instance, last month, they gained an excellent point at Skilled Park in oppressive humidity – they have still failed to recapture their early season form and have only managed two wins since that first loss of the season.
Currently, they are on another winless run which stands at six games. So, if ever there was a time for the players to stand up, be counted and give a great performance for their loyal fans, it is this Sunday, when they play in front of The Shed for the last time in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.
Glory-s community partner Chicken Treat are match day sponsors for this last home game and are offering children FREE entry to nib Stadium with every kids pack purchased. The offer will be open in Metro and South West stores. Join in with the fun activities at the precinct before kick-off and small-sided games at half time.
The match also represents veteran Jamie Harnwell-s last game for the club, so be there to show him your appreciation for the years of dedication he gave. Having played a record 255 games for Glory, he deserves the biggest of ovations.
Gold Coast United arrive West with, realistically, not much to play for but position, as they have already done enough to qualify for the finals series for the second season in a row, but, just like in their inaugural campaign, have probably not quite done enough to sneak into the top two.
After a disappointing defeat in Melbourne last weekend, they faced a tough home encounter with fellow finalists Adelaide United in the week, meaning that there might be some weary legs in the visitors- dressing room on Sunday. Maybe this is the perfect time for Glory to set about their opponents? With a high tempo performance, they could just sneak this one.
It might have been a hard season to watch from the stands at times, but this is your last chance to get a football fix at nib Stadium before those barren months until the new Hyundai A-League season starts again in August. So secure a ticket today and, for one last time, march with your team as they look to end their home fixtures on an high.
Come on Shed, you’ve been outstanding in your vocal performances all through this tough campaign, so see your players off with one more amazing display of noise and colour. For Jamie Harnwell, it will be a final send-off. So bid him farewell with a magnificent reception.
