As the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season heads towards its conclusion, it-s time for The Shed to raise their voices and urge their team for one last push as they look to rediscover that early season form. Make some noise as Glory take on the Mariners.
There is a lot of history between these two sides – even just from the two matches the teams have played this campaign – so there is sure to be plenty of needle as they come together for the last time. If there has been a definable low point in Perth-s very testing season, then surely it came at Sydney Football Stadium, when Central Coast Mariners absolutely humiliated them.
It may have taken the home side until the 37th minute to gain the lead, but in truth they ran Glory ragged from first whistle to the last and, after the first goal, the side that had lost their previous six games simply crumbled. Four second-half strikes followed, and it could have been more. It will take everyone related to Perth Glory a very long time to forget that defeat.
So, when Mariners made the long trip west for the next match up, a slightly rejuvenated Glory had both eyes set firmly on revenge against the team that had previously ripped them to shreds.
They couldn-t have gotten off to a better start either, with Josh Mitchell opening the scoring in the 4th minute, but Mariners again left them devastated by stealing a late point, thanks to Patrick Zwaanswijk-s 87th minute equaliser. Will this midweek encounter prove to be the time that Glory finally pick up three points against Mariners in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season?
It is sure to be another really tough test for Perth. Mariners have been one of the biggest success stories of the season, and still have it all to play for. One of the breakthrough talents of this campaign has been Mariners- midfielder Mustafa Amini, and, for him, games against Perth Glory will always be special.
It was in the 5-0 win that he became the youngest ever Mariner to make a starting debut at just 17 years, six months and ten days. Will it be another night to remember for the rising star? If it is to be, then he might have to make his mark after coming on from the bench.
