Preview: Brisbane Roar v Gold Coast United

Come and hail your Champions as they return to Suncorp as heroes! It’s going to be a day of history-making celebrations

Brisbane Roar v Gold Coast United
Saturday 12th February 8:15pm

What a return home it is set to be for Brisbane Roar. With the team having temporarily relocated after the floods, they play their first game back at Suncorp Stadium when Gold Coast United visit this weekend, and what an occasion it is going to be, as the team will be presented with the Premier-s Plate for the first time ever.

Make sure you are there to see history in the making. With the floods having caused a horrific start to the year, what better way to raise the spirits of residents of the area than with a big, unabashed celebration of the city-s sporting triumph? So get a ticket today and be part of a huge, joyous crowd as the all-conquering heroes return home to accept the silverware that they so richly deserve.

This time last year, Brisbane Roar were ending a miserable season in 9th place, so, at the start of the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season, not even the most optimistic Roar supporter would have predicted that they would be heading to Suncorp Stadium on the last day of the campaign to see their side take a lap of honour having won the league.

Why would you be anywhere else on Saturday night? Bring your camera, bring your family, bring your best singing voice and get ready for an occasion like nothing that has ever come before.

The club and venue are encouraging anyone attending the match to pre-purchase tickets to avoid any potential delays on the day and to also take advantage of free public transport for anyone holding a match day ticket. To bolster what is sure to be an already bumper crowd, the FFA is dedicating the match to flood victims and will be offering five thousand flood victims, volunteers and emergency services personnel the chance to attend for free.

Many of the free tickets will be given to those who were hardest hit in the Ipswich area, particularly the Goodna small business and wider community, the refugee communities in Yeronga, Rocklea and Oxley and the football communities based around the Centenary, Moggill, Toowong and Oxley football clubs.

In local rivals Gold Coast United, Roar take on a side they have failed to beat this season and that will be hugely keen to put a downer on their big day. Both M1 derbies so far this season have ended with the teams level, with a 0-0 draw at Skilled Park on the opening weekend of the season followed by a brilliant 2-2 draw at Suncorp in which Roar twice pegged back the visitors to keep their remarkable unbeaten run going.

With United already nestled in the finals mix-up, they won-t be too terrified of a trip to Suncorp and will be gunning for a win as they look to finish as high as possible in the ladder. Last week-s triumph in Perth, thanks to a brace of penalties from that man Shane Smeltz, will certainly stand them in good stead for a trip to the champions, and their deadly strikers will certainly give Brisbane-s back-line a lot to think about.

Roar fans, get yourself along to Suncorp for the first time in ages, give Ange Postecoglou-s side the ovation that they thoroughly deserve and send them into the finals with your support ringing in their ears.

This team has the capability to win the lot this year, so help them head towards the end of season shake-up with confidence by cheering them on to win against a side that they might come up against again in the Grand Final. With your support, Roar can achieve the double. Be part of the carnival atmosphere and a belting M1 derby!
