Brisbane football fans are in for a treat as the Roar welcome fellow traditional competition heavyweights Canberra United on Sunday.
There will be a host of Westfield Matildas on show, plus numerous international imports headlined by Japan Women’s World Cup winner Yukari Kinga.
The two sides boast a tremendous history, including a competition record four meetings in the finals dating back to a match-up in the maiden Westfield W-League Grand Final.
The Roar’s line-up has been strengthened by the week, with Tameka Butt’s recent return set to be followed by the return of another club stalwart, Brooke Spence. An opening comeback 2-1 win over Sydney FC was followed a tough scoreless draw at Perth Glory. Those results leave the two-time champions Brisbane second and a win here would give them a massive early platform.
Canberra United head north in the unfamiliar position of bottom spot, albeit having played just once, and that was again champions Melbourne City. Indeed, United turned in a tremendous performance last weekend, creating numerous chances but unable to deliver the killer blow.
This contest is always a highlight on the Westfield W-League fixture list, and one not to be missed.
