Robbie Cornthwaite has revealed he received some special advice from Tony Popovic before scoring a brace against Newcastle Jets last weekend.
Cornthwaite celebrated his first goals for the Red & Black in Round 25’s Hyundai A-League clash against the Jets.
Both of his goals were scored with his head and Cornthwaite said that earlier in the week, Popovic had given him some direction about getting into the right areas.

“It’s nice to contribute and get my first goals for the Club.
“I was speaking during the week to Popa about set pieces and he gave me a small bit of advice.
“A couple of days later I got my double so I’m happy to play my part for the team,” said Cornthwaite.
The Wanderers will be aiming for their fourth straight win in the league against Melbourne Victory on Saturday night, though Cornthwaite is well aware of how tough a challenge it will be.
“I mean they’re not second on the table by mistake, they’re a very dangerous team full of attacking talent.
“We’ve seen in previous games, we’ve played quite well against them.
“We lost 3-0 on both occassions so we understand how dangerous they can be.
“We need to continue to build good momnetum and confidence heading into the finals,” said Cornthwaite.
The Wanderers’ place in the finals series is not entirely secure with Cornthwaite noting that results can change positions on the ladder in an instant.
“With the tightness of the league, if you string a few wins together in a row you can really climb up quickly.
“It is a league where anyone can beat anyone so we need to be on the top of our game.
“We need to be looking up and looking to see who we can catch above us.
“If we continue playing the way we’ve been playing with a positive mindset with plenty of chances then there’s no reason why we can’t go further up the ladder,” said Cornthwaite.
