Western Sydney boss Tony Popovic praised his side’s performance in their 3-0 defeat to Melbourne Victory but says they must “do better” to arrest a four-match winless slump.
Wanderers squandered their best opportunities at Etihad Stadium and now sit outside the finals places within just one win in six matches.

While disappointed not to receive a penalty for Jason Geria’s second half challenge on Jumpei Kusukami, Popovic acknowledged the need for Western Sydney to improve.
“We were dominant away from home,” Popovic told Fox Sports.
“What a fantastic first-half performance. To go in 1-0 down was really disappointing.
“Overall we know we can do better. We need to do better with our final ball but some of the combinations were excellent.
“The hardest part is finishing teams off and getting goals. We got done on the counter which is a strength of Melbourne Victory’s.”
The heavy defeat leaves Western Sydney with the worst defensive record in the competition having conceded 13 goals, one more than Central Coast Mariners’ 12.
“We have to do better in the final third and defensively we’re getting punished from mistakes,” Popovic said.
“We have to cut those out.”
