Points shared in Grand Final replay

Sydney FC and Melbourne City played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Allianz Stadium on Sunday as the points were shared in the Westfield W-League Grand Final replay.

Second half goals to Caitlin Foord and Jessica Fishlock ensured the points were shared in a tight and tense match of few chances.

George Yeoman-Dale hit the post early for the Sky Blues in a first half of few chances, with both sides battling in the heat in midfield.

Nicola Bolger thought she’d opened the scoring for Sydney FC after she backheeled in a Teresa Polias cross however the offside flag was up to deny the midfielder and ensure the two sides went into the break level.

The second half opened in much the same fashion, with both sides throwing in heavy challenges as the search for the opening goal ramped up.

The opening goal came just after the hour mark as Foord showed off her athleticism to jink into the Melbourne City area before sweeping home past Lydia Williams.

The goal sparked City to life and 10 minutes later the scores were level as Fishlock headed in a deep cross from Stephanie Catley on the left flank to claw one back for the away side.

Minutes later Remy Siemsen thought she’d found a winner as she prodded home off a Kyah Simon ball on the turn, however the offside flag again denied the home side.

With time ticking down both sides threatened on the break, however with no further chances the scores remained level at one all as the full time whistle sounded.

Sydney FC have the BYE next round while Melbourne City contest the Melbourne derby on Sunday 15 January (kick off 4pm) at Epping Stadium.
