France’s Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been named the best young player of the FIFA World Cup following Germany’s triumph in the final.
Pogba fended off competition from compatriot Raphael Varane and Dutch winger Memphis Depay for the award which recognises the best U-21 player at the tournament in Brazil.
The France No.19 caught the eye with some impressive performances during Les Bleus’ run to the quarter-finals where they were beaten by the eventual Champions.
Pogba’s form has seen the former Manchester United starlet linked with some big money moves away from the Turin giants but the player’s agent, Mino Rajola, has dismissed the transfer speculation.
“It’s just fantasy football,” said Rajola in stating that Pogba is not looking to leave the Italian Champions. "Everything is perfect at Juventus and no meetings are planned."
Pogba has spent the last two seasons in the Serie A and is set to be part of the Juventus squad that will tour Australia to play the Foxtel A-League All Stars next month in Sydney.
Argentina’s Lionel Messi was named the Golden Ball winner for player of the tournament, Colombia's James Rodriguez took home the Golden Boot, while Germany’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer claimed the Golden Glove as the other individual award recipients.
Champions of Italy, Juventus, take on the Foxtel A-League All Stars led by the Italian champion Alessandro Del Piero at ANZ Stadium, Sydney on Sunday 10 August.
