In a huge shock, Wellington Phoenix have announced playmaker Dario Vidosic is leaving the club with immediate effect.
Ahead of this weekend’s clash with champions Sydney FC, the club and Vidosic have agreed a mutual termination of the Caltex Socceroos’ contract.
Vidosic has been one of Phoenix’s best so far in the 2017/18 Season, starting all 10 matches and scoring four goals.
He also has two assists and a passing accuracy of more than 78%.
He leaves the club with Phoenix sitting last on the Hyundai A-League ladder with just one win from their opening 10 games.
Vidosic’s father Rado has also left Phoenix after offering his resignation this week.
Rado, who has enjoyed success in the Hyundai A-League at both Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory, was brought in at the start of season along with new coach Darije Kalezić.
“We entered this season with tremendous optimism based on the pedigree of both and Rado Vidošić – both title winners, both excellent football thinkers,” Phoenix General Manager David Dome said.
“Over recent weeks it’s become apparent not everyone has been on the same page and the playing group has begun to be affected by this uncertainty.
“We’ve put tremendous work this season into progressing the culture at this football club and the players and staff have bought into this.
“We are confident this unity of vision and purpose hold us in good stead to improve performances.”
Phoenix officials say they will announce new player and coaching additions once the January transfer window opens in the New Year.
