Petratos says it is ‘time to change’ ahead of Adelaide visit

Dimi Petratos says it is time for change as Newcastle Jets head to Adelaide United on Friday evening.

The Jets face the Reds at Coopers Stadium seeking their first win of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season.

But the venue has not been a happy hunting ground for the Jets in recent years.

Although Newcastle did win at Coopers Stadium last term, the Jets have lost five of their past seven Hyundai A-League encounters in the City of Churches – including 7-0 and 5-2 defeats.

Petratos said the record had not been brought up during the week but acknowledged it was time the Jets find their groove in South Australia.

“I don’t think it’s in the boys’ minds,” he said.

“No one has brought anything like that up. We’ve been very positive, the two sessions that we’ve had this week, plus the recovery.

“[It is] time to change things, I guess, and get a win over there.”

Petratos, who scored in Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat to Wellington Phoenix in Round 1, said there were a lot of positives to take out of the match.

And he added that the Jets would continue to attack sides in the same manner as they did during the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 season.

“We’re going to continue to play the same way as we did last year,” he said.

“I think we had a number of good passages of play in Wellington. We’ve just got to build on that.”

Petratos also backed Brazilian import Jair, insisting he was impressed with the attacker’s Hyundai A-League debut against the Phoenix.

“I think it was a good performance from him,” he said.

“It’s tough to go over there [New Zealand] for your first game.

“He’s never played in Wellington before. I think the more games that come, he’ll get better and better.”
