Perth take the glory in Brisbane

Two stunning goals on debut from Vanessa DiBernardo lifted Perth Glory to a 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

The win boosted the premiers, who had made an erratic start to the season, into a share of second behind runaway leaders Melbourne City.

The match will be remembered for two sumptuous strikes sandwiched at either end of the contest from American youth international DiBernardo.

Just eight minutes into her Westfield W-League debut, DiBernardo fired with power and precision past Haley Kopmeyer after Glory forward Sam Kerr had chased down an attempted clearance from the Roar custodian.

Westfield Matildas star Kerr, however, went off in distress minutes later after suffering a serious looking ankle injury, despite no contact with her opponent.

DiBernardo wrapped up the points with a few minutes left on the clock thanks to a stunning bit of vision and execution. The Chicago Red Stars’ midfielder launched a lobbed effort on the turn from distance for what will undoubtedly stand out as one of the goals of the season.

The Roar were not without their chances with Emily Gielnik notably coming close, but Glory goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold was in unbeatable form.

The Roar are on the road next Sunday at Melbourne City, while the Glory have a week off before tackling Melbourne Victory on Saturday 28 November.
