Perth Glory have secured Newcastle Jets Captain and Socceroo, Ruben Zadkovich, on a two year deal after the 28 year old midfielder negotiated an early release from the Jets.
Zadkovich first joined the Newcastle Jets back in 2010 from the English Championship side Derby County and was then named Jets Captain in 2013, taking over from Jobe Wheelhouse.
2013 proved to be a stellar year for the robust midfielder as he won the Ray Baartz Medal (Newcastle Jets Player of the Year) as well as gaining his maiden Socceroo cap ahead of the East Asian Cup competition.
“We-re delighted to be able to bring a player of Ruben-s calibre to the Club so soon before the next season.” CEO Jason Brewer said today.
“We have been admirers of Ruben-s determination and commitment over the years, along with his professionalism, he-s one of only a hand full of players in any professional league to have played a part in all but one game over the past two seasons. A rarity amongst professionals these days.” Brewer concluded.
Zadkovich-s previous Clubs include English sides Notts County and Derby County along with a two year stint at Sydney FC where he appeared 41 times for the club. Since signing with the Jets he has played 97 games, captaining the side in 38 of those games.
“It-s a huge decision for me to leave the Jets and join Perth Glory.” Zadkovich said today.
“With the recent signings the Club has made and the ambitions that Kenny Lowe has discussed with me, I-m extremely happy to be making this move. It-s an exciting time for football in Perth and I’m glad to be part of it” Zadkovich stated.
Ruben Zadkovich joins Diego Ferreira, Dino Djulbic and Youssouf Hersi as Head Coach’s Kenny Lowe’s first new signings for the Club during the 2014/15 A-League off season.
