Perth Glory will host the Hyundai A-League 2019 Grand Final at Optus Stadium next weekend after they defeated Adelaide United following a dramatic penalty shoot-out in front of a record Hyundai A-League crowd of 17,868 at HBF Park this evening.
Perth Glory’s Captain, Diego Castro, opened the scoring in the 29th minute following a great build-up. Castro doubled his tally in the 74th minute when he beat his defender expertly in the box and slotted the ball inside the far post. Adelaide United pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute through Papa Baba Diawara following a goal-mouth scramble and Ryan Kitto equalised for Adelaide United in the last minute of time added on to send the match into extra-time.
Scott Neville restored Perth Glory’s lead in the 104th minute with a header from the edge of the six-yard box from a Jason Davidson cross. Adelaide United equalized yet again the 115th minute with a header from Michael Marrone.
With neither team able to find the winner in extra-time the match would be decided with penalties.
After both teams had five attempts each, scoring four goals a-piece, the shoot-out went to sudden death. Liam Reddy saved the next three consecutive shots from Adelaide United and Paul Izzo saved twice. Joel Chianese stepped up to score the final match winning penalty which put the Perth crowd into raptures and secured an historic first Hyundai A-League Grand Final hosting for the Glory.
