Perth Glory hand ‘standout performer’ new long-term contract: Full Details

Perth Glory have handed goalkeeper Matt Sutton a new three-year contract after an impressive start to life at the club.

Initially signed on an injury-replacement contract before the start of the new season, the 25-year-old has shone for Perth Glory in the absence of injured goalkeepers Mark Birighitti and Cameron Cook.

Sutton has subsequently made 12 appearances for the Glory this season keeping three clean sheets, with his performances enough to persuade the club to hand him a new long-term deal.

“We were very pleased to be able to bring Matt in when we lost both Mark Birighitti and Cameron Cook to injury just before the season started,” said Perth Glory Football Director, Stan Lazaridis.

“He has fitted in so well, providing a reassuring presence in goal and pulling off some outstanding saves.

“A no-nonsense, very likeable character, Matt has worked in well with our other goalkeepers and it’s clear that our members and fans have really taken to him.

He continued: “We’re thrilled that he’s agreed to sign this long-term deal which means that we now have an extremely strong and competitive goalkeeping unit at the club moving forward.
