A shattered North Queensland Fury goal keeper Justin Pasfield has taken the blame for his side’s 3-0 loss to Melbourne Victory at Dairy Farmers Stadium on Wednesday night.
North Queensland were again faced with their all too common problem of not being able to find the back of the net with an array of goal-scoring opportunities throughout the game.
Pasfield believes his team was well and truly in the game despite being down 1-0 before he made the error that allowed the Victory to double their lead.
“I take all blame for that goal that we conceded that pretty much killed us off. I thought we were on top until I made that mistake off the corner where I should have caught it instead of punching it,” he said.
“Sometimes as a footballer you have to put your hand up and take blame.”
Pasfield publicly apologised to everyone involved with the club and said his team had intended to come out tonight to bounce back from their record loss last week.
“I apologise to my team-mates, the fans and the club,” he added.
“I’m shattered because we spoke about how much we wanted to come out here today and prove that last week was just an off day but it took an individual mistake from myself to let them into the game.”
Despite having now suffered their sixth loss in a row, Pasfield vowed that his team would bounce back.
“We have just got pick ourselves up. We don’t play until next weekend now,” he said.
It doesn’t get any easier for North Queensland though as their next game is against the table-topping Brisbane Roar.
A distraught North Queensland Fury Coach Franz Straka did not front the media to speak about the loss.
