German midfielder Daniel Adlung says Adelaide United owed Brisbane Roar an honest effort in delivering a performance that expelled Western Sydney Wanderers from Finals Series contention.
Adelaide came from behind to dramatically win 3-2 at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, costing Wanderers the victory they needed to finish sixth.
That spot instead went to Brisbane Roar, who had the Reds to thank for keeping them in a position they had reclaimed with Saturday’s success away to Perth Glory.
“I think for us today it was important to ensure our best performance,” Adlung told Fox Sports.
“Brisbane won yesterday and if we were in the position of Brisbane [we would have expected] they give everything.
“I think both sides played a very good game today, but in the end I think we deserved the win.”

Goals from Adlung, Baba Diawara and Ryan Kitto helped Adelaide snap a three-game losing run away from home, having failed to score in that sequence.
It marked a timely result ahead of next Sunday’s Elimination Final visit to rivals Melbourne Victory.
“It’s good for us that we know we can win away from home,” Adlung said.
“It’s always good if you play away from home to stay in good shape and to get a victory.”
