Fox Sports Latin America asked the question if Elrich’s goal against City on Saturday was as good as Diego Maradona’s famous solo run in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final win over England.
Metro UK (http://metro.co.uk/2015/04/26/puskas-contender-tarek-elrich-scores-this-outrageous-solo-goal-5168395/) ran a similar line on his goal, suggesting it could be a Puskas nominee for goal of the year.
Argentina’s Spanish language newspaper (http://mundod.lavoz.com.ar/futbol/tarek-elrich-candidatazo-al-mejor-gol-del-2015) La Voz del Interior also trumpeted it as a goal of the year contender.
Fox Sports analyst and ex-EPL goalkeeper Mark Bosnich says the goal deserves worldwide recognition.
“For me, Tarek Elrich goal [is the] goal of the season,” Bosnich said on Fox Sports’ Matchday Saturday.
“If that was someone in any of the big European leagues, we’d be hailing it for two or three weeks.”
Elrich also got plenty of love on Twitter as well.
