Outcome of Match Review Panel – Round 17

Melbourne Victory’s James Donachie and Perth Glory’s Liam Reddy have been handed sanctions by the independent Match Review Panel following their red cards in Round 17.

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Adam D’Apuzzo, and Con Diomis – convened today to consider the following incidents from Round 17 of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season.

1.       An incident involving James Donachie (Donachie) of Melbourne Victory which arose in or around the 71st minute of Melbourne Victory’s match against Sydney FC on Thursday, 26 January 2017. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Donachie was expelled from the match by the Referee.

The MRP determined that Donachie committed the offence of “Serious foul play (e.g. when challenging for the ball)”.

The MRP has proposed a sanction of one match (the Mandatory Match Suspension), being the Minimum Sanction for the offence.

2.       An incident involving Liam Reddy (Reddy) of Perth Glory which arose in or around the 83rd minute of Perth Glory’s match against Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, 28 January 2017. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Reddy was expelled from the match by the Referee.

The MRP determined that Reddy committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity”.

The MRP has proposed a sanction of one match (the Mandatory Match Suspension), being the Minimum Sanction for the offence.
