The Match Review Panel (MRP) have handed down the following verdict following the weekend’s Round 21 Hyundai A-League action.
The independent Match Review Panel – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Contini and Alan Davidson – reconvened today to consider a Citation Incident involving Kosta Barbarouses of Melbourne Victory (the Player) which arose in or around the 22nd minute of Melbourne Victory’s Round 21 Hyundai A-League Match against Sydney FC on Saturday, 27 February 2016.
The Player was cited by the MRP in accordance with the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations (Regulations). In reviewing the Citation Incident during this afternoon’s meeting, the MRP took into consideration all of the available evidence, including the submissions lodged by Melbourne Victory on behalf of the Player.
The MRP determined that the Player committed the offence of Serious Foul Play (e.g. when challenging for the ball) against Milos Ninkovic (Sydney FC). The MRP proposed a sanction of two (2) Hyundai A-League matches (being the Mandatory Match suspension plus one (1) additional Hyundai A-League match).
Under the Regulations, the Player may refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee for hearing and determination of the sole question of sanction. The Player has until 5pm (AEDT) Thursday 3 March 2016 to advise whether he wishes to do so.
