The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) – consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Davidson and Adam D’Apuzzo – convened today to consider the following incidents:
1. An incident involving Dino Djulbic of Perth Glory (Djulbic) in or around the 91st minute of Perth Glory’s Round 12 match against Melbourne City FC on Tuesday, 27 December 2016. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Djulbic was expelled from the match by the Referee.
The MRP determined that Djulbic committed the offence of “Assault on a player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball) including an attempted Assault on a Player”. The MRP has proposed a sanction of three (3) matches, being the Mandatory Match Suspension plus two (2) additional matches. The Minimum Sanction for the offence is two (2) matches.
Under the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations (the Regulations), Djulbic may refer the matter to the independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing and determination of the sole question of either:
(a) what additional sanction should be imposed above the Minimum Sanction (inclusive of the Mandatory Match Suspension which must be served), applying the Range at the Table of Offences; or
(b) whether Exceptional Circumstances apply and therefore a sanction outside the Range at the Table of Offences should be imposed, provided always that the Mandatory Match Suspension must be served.
Djulbic has until 12:00pm (AEDT) Thursday, 29 December 2016 to advise whether he wishes to appeal the three (3) match sanction proposed by the MRP.
2. An incident involving Fernando Brandan of Melbourne City FC (Brandan) in or around the 91st minute of Melbourne City FC’s Round 12 match against Perth Glory on Tuesday, 27 December 2016. The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Brandan was expelled from the match by the Referee.
The MRP determined that Brandan committed the offence of “Assault on a player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball) including an attempted Assault on a Player”. The MRP has proposed a sanction of two (2) matches, being the Minimum Sanction for the offence.
Under the Regulations, Brandan may refer the matter to the independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for hearing and determination of the sole question of whether Exceptional Circumstances apply and therefore a sanction outside the Range at the Table of Offences should be imposed, provided always that the Mandatory Match Suspension must be served.
Brandan has until 12:00pm (AEDT) on Thursday, 29 December 2016 to advise whether he wishes to appeal the two (2) match sanction proposed by the MRP.
Further, earlier today, Brendon Santalab accepted a two (2) match suspension following his dismissal by the referee in Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s match against Brisbane Roar FC on 23 December 2016.
He will serve this suspension in addition to a one (1) match suspension which he has incurred for accumulating five (5) yellow cards. Accordingly, Santalab will be ineligible for Western Sydney Wanderers FC’s next three (3) Hyundai A-League matches.
