North Queensland Fury will leave it to the last minute to decide on the squad that will travel to take on Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday night.
They have been boosted with the return of Dyron Daal and Andre Kilian who are available for selection having both passed fitness tests on Monday.
North Queensland Assistant Coach Stuart McLaren said there would be a few changes to the team that played in their 2-0 loss against the Brisbane Roar on the weekend.
“We are likely to have a couple of changes. We did some fitness tests with a couple of boys yesterday and they’re available for selection which is great for us,” he said.
McLaren said the squad could benefit from the inclusion of players like Daal and Kilian who were absent from the clash against the Roar last weekend.
“Dyron is a good threat to have in the squad in an attacking sense and perhaps we missed a little bit of that punch against Brisbane. It will be great to call upon him,” he added.
“Obviously when Andre Kilian has been fit for us this season I think he has been great for us … We’re delighted we can call upon him also.”
With securing points in every game becoming more and more important in North Queensland’s fight to make the top six, McLaren said they were looking at every game in isolation.
“As we have done for most of the season is just looking at the next game and that’s Central Coast tomorrow night. We hope that we can pick up some points out of that and if we do will start looking at Wellington,” he said.
McLaren acknowledged that the Mariners were a good side but said they stuck to a predictable pattern that he hoped his team could overcome.
“It’s going to be a good match up. They’re a side that has a particular pattern and they stick to it. I think the one time they changed it against Brisbane they got torn apart so perhaps they won’t do that again but they play with a lot of fight, they play with a lot of endeavour and effort and you have to match that.”
Central Coast are coming off two draws with their last match against Gold Coast United abandoned because of adverse weather conditions.
They are currently sitting in fourth place on the Hyundai A- League ladder while North Queensland remain stuck in ninth place.
