Contrary to reports suggesting Shinji Ono has inked a new deal at Wanderers FC, club CEO Lyall Gorman says a deal is still “weeks away”.
Western Sydney Wanderers FC have denied marquee man Shinji Ono has signed a new deal, and that reaching one is still “weeks away”.
Wanderers CEO, Lyall Gorman said the club would not be rushing through a deal on their Japanese star and that both parties were happy to bide their time at the moment.
“We’re in ongoing discussion with Shinji. Neither he or us are in any rush on that but we’d expect somewhere in the next couple of weeks that we will come to an agreement with Shinji and hopefully keep him in Australia,” Gorman said.
“We’re working continually on that (a deal) but neither party is trying to press the other into a deal.
“When relationships are so so storng you don’t have to force them, they will hapopen over time.”
Gorman would definitelty like to keep Ono at the club though, and hisghlighted that he has not only been great on the field for the club, but also tremendously important off of it.
“He has been remarkable for us as a player on the field and an incredible role model off the field. He is one of the most humble sportspeople I have ever met in my life.”
