Perth Glory heads into tomorrow-s Westfield W-League fixture against Melbourne Victory knowing that a much-improved performance is needed as permanent places in the team are now at stake.
Last weekend-s crushing 11-0 defeat at the hands of Sydney FC left the playing group battered, but that is now in the past and the focus is well and truly on Melbourne Victory.
Saturday will also see the Glory take to Inglewood-s 6PR Stadium without experienced international trio Katie Holtham (suspended), Emma Kete and Lisa-Marie Woods (both released).
Coach Jamie Harnwell has now been forced to bring in some young blood into the squad for tomorrow-s match with defender Shawn Billam in contention to make her Perth Glory debut.
“After the disappointment of last week, the players know they have a lot to prove to themselves, the supporters and the rest of the league,” said Harnwell.
“There will be changes made and those players who have been working hard outside of the matchday squad will get their opportunity to come in and stake a claim for a permanent place.
“We are under no illusions that this will be a difficult game against a very good and quick Melbourne side, however each and every player realises what is at stake for this game.”
Fans are encouraged to come from 3pm to test their skills with the brand new Smarter than Smoking blow-up goal which will be on display on the adjacent training pitch.
Kick-off against Melbourne Victory is at 4pm Perth time.
