One week to go till new Westfield W-League season!

It’s hard to remember a more highly-anticipated Westfield W-League season than this one – the tenth in the competition’s history and one I reckon will be amazing.

Superstar players from the Westfield Matildas and abroad, a hugely increased focus on the games and a league that’s really blossomed over the last 10 years into a powerhouse competition that’s globally recognised.

With women’s football in this country riding the crest of a an unprecedented wave of popularity – driven by the Matildas’ wonderful exploits in 2017 – there is huge interest in the 2017/18 domestic competition.

Kerr

Many of the Australian stars who wowed fans at the Tournament of Nations and then in sold-out home internationals against Brazil will feature for their clubs, including golden girl Sam Kerr, fresh from winning the Women’s Health sportswoman of the year award this week.

Kerr’s goals and trademark celebrations have Perth Glory fans in a state of high excitement, but the other eight teams have also strengthened ahead of the new campaign.

Household names like Lisa De Vanna, Hayley Raso and Clare Polkinghorne will be joined by the next wave of young stars eager to show their worth, while some big  re-signed stars such as Lydia Williams and Emily Van Egmond add another layer of class.

City

Kyra Coney-Cross, Sofia Sakalis, Remy Siemsen and Princess Ibini represent the future of the Westfield Matildas and are sure to thrill crowds this summer.

With more televised games than ever before and so many heroines for young female footballers to admire and aspire to emulate, the coming season can’t arrive quickly enough!
