Roar keeper recalled by US parent club amid ‘brilliant breakout’ season in Brisbane

Brisbane Roar have confirmed the return of American goalkeeper Olivia Sekany to her parent club Racing Louisville in the United States.

Sekany’s return to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club comes after 17 appearances for Brisbane in the 2024-25 Ninja A-League season, in which she’s kept six clean sheets and made 47 saves.

The 26-year-old’s last appearance for the Roar came on March 2 when a left leg injury led to her early substitution in a 3-2 loss to Sydney FC. Keeley Richards replaced Sekany off the bench in that game and will be promoted to the club’s first-choice goalkeeping option following Sekany’s departure.

The American described her time at Brisbane Roar as “everything I could’ve hoped for and more” as her departure amid what the club described as a “brilliant A-League breakout season.”

“I learned so much about myself as both a player and a person and truly loved every minute I got to spend with my Roar family on and off the pitch,” she added.

“While I’m absolutely shattered to not get the chance to finish out the rest of the season with the team, I know that the girls are going to absolutely crush it the rest of the way and do the organisation, the fans, and the city of Brisbane proud!”
