Ross Anderson reckons being a Hyundai A-League club member puts you ‘in the trenches with the players’, and he’s such a big fan of his beloved Sydney FC, he kitted up his grandson before the little guy was even born.
“I’d purchased him his first Sydney FC kit at the club’s Fan Day prior to his birth,” Anderson told www.a-league.com.au.
“I hope that he will grow to not only share our family’s passion for football but also for Sydney FC.”
Ross, who lives in Sydney’s south west, has plenty of passion for his Sky Blues.
Not only has he been a member of Sydney FC’s Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League teams for the last three seasons, but he has also been the club’s match-day ball-person coordinator since the Hyundai A-League’s inception (he also fulfils that role for the W-League and NYL matches).
Now that’s dedication to his beloved club.
“I think it’s important to support your club in every way you can,” he said.
“Despite the fact that I actually volunteer at the home games I felt that the membership gave me a chance to do more.
“I’m proud to be a member and wear my membership cards on a lanyard around my neck whilst walking the sideline.
“I have a lot of pride in being a Sydney FC supporter. I’m proud of our achievements as a club, proud of the many great players who have represented us.”
Ross said the smiles on the kids’ faces as they line-up in the tunnel with the players is the best part of his job.
And he also has no doubt the Sky Blues will be a force under Graham Arnold.
“I’m very excited about Sydney’s prospects this season. We’ve signed a championship-winning coach and a number of quality players,” he said.
“Our squad this season has a lot of depth, we look to be really potent in the front third and I believe that we will be serious contenders.
“Club membership is very important. Yes, it’s obviously a great financial support for your club but it’s also a recognition that you are in the trenches with the players; that you’re showing the club you’re behind them in what they are trying to achieve.
“There’s also that feeling you get of being part of a community with other members.”
