Official W-Preview: Perth Glory v Adelaide United

This match will see these two teams fighting it out, both hoping to secure their first win of the season!

ABC Match of the week

Adelaide United hosted the Newcastle Jets last weekend and were unlucky not to come away with a win, losing 2-0. The Lady Reds had the better of the second half, only to be demoralised by two late goals.

It-s a very promising start for Adelaide United who should be travelling to Perth in high spirits after that strong first round performance. Despite conceding goals to Newcastle, one of the strengths for this new Adelaide outfit is their resilient defensive unit.

With Ruth Blackburn and Stacy Day holding the fort in the back line, along with keeper Sian McLaren guarding the posts, any goals scored against this team will have to be earned.

Up the other end, exciting international striker Ashleigh Gunning can hopefully reward her team by providing Adelaide their first goal of the season.

This will prove to be a hard task as they face a very determined Perth Glory team this Saturday!

After a 4-1 loss to Canberra last weekend at home, Perth Glory coach John Gibson may be looking to his senior players to inspire this young team and hopefully gain their first win!

Westfield Matildas vice captain Collette McCallum is back in the line-up this weekend after missing last week-s match. Collette’s thick Scottish accent may be, at times hard to hear on the field however Collette lifts her team mates through her footballing prowess.

Whether it be through her amazing vision, knowledge of the game or her uncanny ability to create something out of nothing, Collette is a true leader. Along with the support of Captain Tanya Oxtoby and fellow Westfield Matilda Katie Gill, these players may be the solution Perth are looking for to securing the three points this week!

This will no doubt be a very entertaining match, with both teams desperate for their first win of the season. Fortunately for the fans, this match happens to be the ‘match of the round- so if you can-t get to the match to see the game unfold live you can watch it on ABC1 from 3.00pm AEDT.
