Records are there to be broken! Be part of the excitement on Friday as the unbeaten ladder leaders bid to create Hyundai A-League history…

Hindmarsh Stadium is the venue for what Adelaide United hope will be history in the making on Friday night. Last week-s twelfth game without defeat saw The Reds equal the Hyundai A-League record for unbeaten matches set by Central Coast Mariners all the way back in Season One.

On Friday they will be aiming to go one better and claim the record entirely for themselves, and they want you to be there cheering them on. So, get yourself down to Hindmarsh and make loads of noise as Rini Coolen-s side bid to consolidate their place at the top of the ladder.

With a third of the season gone, United-s form has been near faultless, but they almost came a cropper against Gold Coast last weekend. With the game finely balanced at 0-0, Sergio Van Dijk appeared to handle in front of his goal in the 83rd minute. Fortunately for The Reds, the officials didn-t spot it and Adelaide-s unbeaten run remains intact.

Regardless of that slice of luck, a goalless draw at Skilled Park was a really decent result against a quality Gold Coast side, especially considering they achieved it without Marcos Flores and Mathew Leckie. Now Adelaide open Week 11 back in front of their own ever-fervent support, and look forward to the visit of a team that are proving themselves to be very beatable on the road.

Wellington Phoenix know all about breaking records. Last week-s draw with Melbourne Heart saw them stretch their unbeaten run at Westpac Stadium to 24 games, one clear of the previous record holders Sydney United, who went 23 consecutive National Soccer League matches without defeat at Sydney United Sports Centre from 1996-99.

However, in stark contrast, the New Zealand side have picked up just one point on the road in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season – a draw against Melbourne Victory. With a record like that, taking something from Friday-s game against the pacesetters seems quite the tall order. Still, anything is possible in this unpredictable season and there is no doubting that Phoenix know how to beat Adelaide.

They were the last side to topple their upcoming opponents, back on the 30th January, when a Jon McKain goal at AMI Stadium was the difference between the sides. Ricki Herbert-s troops will be hoping they can neatly bookend Adelaide-s unbeaten run by picking up a surprise three points.

Adelaide hope to welcome Mathew Leckie and Marcos Flores back to the starting line-up this Friday. Leckie returns from the Qantas Young Socceroos- second placed finish at the AFC U-19 Championships this week, while Flores has a chance recovering from his hamstring injury in time for the match. Meanwhile, Phoenix‘s Manny Muscat is set to make his 50th Hyundai A-League appearance.

United fans, your team is sitting clear at the top of the ladder but there is no room for complacency in this ultra-competitive Hyundai A-League season. Phoenix may struggle on the road, but they are no pushovers, so it-s up to you to paint Hindmarsh red and sing your team on their way to become record-breakers!
