The program will also help deal with the increasing need for more after-school facilities in wake of the increased cost-of-living pressures parents across the state are facing.
“This program is going to make a real difference to many families throughout western Sydney,” NSW Labor Leader Chris Minns said.
“It will help get more kids active, fostering the talents of future sports stars while helping to provide hip pocket relief to families.
“Sport is such a critical aspect of engaging young people to keep them in school.”
Along with the after school programs, the Wanderers will also run a free program for grassroots female footballers in western Sydney to help boost the women’s hame off the back of this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
While also implementing a series of multicultural and all-abilities programs in conjunction with a series of different of organisations – along with a Koori Knockout competition and School Holiday clinics hosted at Wanderers Football Park.
“We are delighted to have the support of NSW Labor Leader Chris Minns and the Labor Government in making a true difference to lives of many families in Western Sydney,” CEO of the Western Sydney Wanderers Scott Hudson said.
“The current pressure on families is all too real for many in our community, and to relieve some of those stresses by hosting After School Programs at our world-class facility, Wanderers Fives, will make a positive impact.
“The Western Sydney Wanderers are so much more than a football club and this program, complemented by our work in Western Sydney schools, the grassroots female football space, multicultural football, all abilities programs, and indigenous football programs will create a huge boost in our community engagement activities.”
The promise comes after the NSW Coalition Government pledged $12.5 million to help expedite Macarthur FC’s Centre of Excellence in Camden if it is re-elected.
