Fury match moved to Gold Coast due to cyclone
The match was originally scheduled to be played at Dairy Farmers Stadium tomorrow, Saturday 5 February, but was postponed on Wednesday due to tropical cyclone Yasi.
The FFA and Fury representatives met this morning to discuss whether or not this match could take place in Townsville on Tuesday but due to the damage caused to the Dairy Farmers Stadium and throughout the entire region, which includes 85% of Townsville still without power, it was decided that this match would be played at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast, 7pm (kick-off).
Commenting on the change of venue, NQ Fury CEO, Rabieh Krayem said; “We are obviously bitterly disappointed, not only for the players but our fans, our supporters and corporate partners who were all looking forward to attending our last home match of the season.
“But at the end of the day, it is about safety and the decision to move the match to Skilled Park was made with safety as the priority.”
This change in venue means that some departing players won-t have the send-off they deserve but the Club is looking at options to allow this to still take place, as Krayem explains; “We are currently looking to do something up here (in Townsville) on Wednesday 16th February after our Wellington game (13th February) to recognise our supporters and corporate partners and most importantly for some of the players who aren-t going to be with us next season to say goodbye, particularly Ufuk Talay.
“We are now talking to our corporate partners about some ideas but it will certainly be football related and give the supporters the opportunity to see the players in action one more time.”
Speaking on behalf of the entire Club, Krayem had the following to say to all Queenslanders affected by the recent Cyclone; “Cyclone Yasi has impacted everyone throughout North Queensland, Far North Queensland and even Western Queensland.
“You are not alone and the special spirit of people in the North will prevail in such times of adversity. Our thoughts are with everyone and together we will rebuild our patch of paradise and bounce back as we have done many times before.”

Tickets for this match are priced at $15 Adults and $10 children (5-15 years) and will be available from Monday via Ticketek or on-the-gate.
Kick-off for this match is 7pm (QLD time), gates open at 6pm.
