Attacker Morten Nordstrand feels Newcastle Jets missed a massive opportunity to strengthen their finals hopes in Sunday’s F3 Derby draw on Sunday.
Despite leading at half-time and creating numerous goal-scoring chances, the Jets had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Central Coast Mariners at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Jets had the chance to leapfrog the Wanderers into the top six with a win but the result means they stay seventh and two points adrift of the playoff spots.

“We really wanted the win today,” Nordstrand told Fox Sports.
“I think we went for it, we had some good chances but we really didn’t put it away unfortunately.
“It leaves us outside the six…we really want to be there [come the end of the season].”
Nordstrand was one of the Jets’ best on Sunday, setting up their goal with a pinpoint cross for Aleksandr Kokko.
It was the Finnish striker’s first Hyundai A-League goal and he looked a threat in a rare start for Mark Jones’ men.
And Danish attacker Nordstrand hopes the goal can be the start of a thriving partnership between the Scandinavian pair.
“There was some good signs today and some good combinations,” said Nordstrand of his strike-pairing with Kokko.
“He’s [Kokko] a real presence when he’s there.
“I made some runs off him and it gave us a goal today and some other chances so it was quite good.”
The Jets are at home again next Sunday as they take on fifth-placed Brisbane Roar.
