Nick Montgomery and Mark Torcaso earn Coach of the Month honours for December

Western United’s Mark Torcaso and Central Coast Mariners’ Nick Montgomery have been named the Liberty A-League and Isuzu UTE A-League Coach of the Month for December respectively.

Both Torcaso and Montgomery were awarded as winners by fan votes, after earning nominations via Football Coaches Australia’s monthly nomination process.

Australian Professional Leagues (APL) partnered with FCA in 2022-23 to give fans a crucial say in recognising outstanding coaching performances across both the Liberty A-League Women and Isuzu UTE A-League Men.

The FCA assembled an experienced panel who together decide the monthly nominees for Coach of the Month in both leagues; a fan vote then decides the winner from the monthly nominees.

The FCA panel consists of:

  • Sarah West: Vice President, FCA
  • Catherine Cannuli: Executive Committee member, FCA
  • Phil Moss: President, FCA
  • Gary Cole: Executive Committee member, FCA
  • John Kosmina: Socceroos Team of the Century, former A-League/NSL head coach

In December, Torcaso was nominated alongside Sydney FC’s Ante Juric, Melbourne Victory’s Jeff Hopkins and Melbourne City’s Dario Vidosic for Liberty A-League Coach of the Month honours.

Torcaso’s side went unbeaten through December, and have now won seven of seven games in the club’s inaugural Liberty A-League season, in a magnificent start to Torcaso’s tenure at the helm of the expansion club.

In the Isuzu UTE A-League, it was Montgomery who came out on top in a fan vote against Western’s John Aloisi, Brisbane Roar’s Warren Moon and Macarthur FC’s Dwight Yorke to clinch December Coach of the Month.

In December, the Mariners enjoyed wins over Melbourne Victory, Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC, whilst registering one defeat each against the Jets and Melbourne City.
