Newcastle Jets have signed former Western Sydney Wanderers defender Poppie Hooks for the 2026/27 Ninja A-League season.
The centre-back made her Ninja A-League debut with Perth Glory in 2021/22, making four appearances before departing the club at the conclusion of the season.
Hooks then enjoyed a successful stint in the NPL with Illawarra Stingrays, where she was named in the Team of the Year, before returning to the A-Leagues in 2025/26 with Western Sydney Wanderers.

The defender made 19 appearances for the Wanderers before departing at the conclusion of the season.
Hooks said she was excited to join the Jets and begin working with her new teammates.
“I’m so ready and beyond excited to start playing with this team, who have already started putting in hard work for each other.
“I’m dedicated to bringing strength and commitment to this squad and end up securing finals.”
Newcastle head coach Stephen Hoyle said Hooks’ defensive qualities made her an attractive addition to the squad.
“Poppie really stood out to me last season with how hard she competed when we played against her.
“She’s an excellent 1v1 defender, is comfortable defending big spaces and is very strong in the air, and I’m excited to see how much further she can develop her game here in Newcastle.”
The Jets begin the 2026/27 Ninja A-League season with a home clash against Perth Glory on Saturday, October 17.
