Melbourne Victory head coach Giovanni Savarese believes his side’s 3-0 win over FC Seoul was the perfect morale booster heading into the club’s A-League Men season opener on Sunday.
Victory cruised past the current K League 1 leaders at AAMI Park thanks to a second-half blitz featuring goals from Guillermo May, Clerismario Santos and Jordi Valadon.
The 3-0 win leaves Victory sat second in Group F having accumulated four points from their opening two games, with Savarese believing the result will help heal the wounds of their Australia Cup final defeat to South Melbourne.

“This game came at the right time because coming out from the game this weekend, we needed a game like this in order to be able to move forward,” Savarese said when speaking after the game.
“I thought we had a very strong performance today against a team that is complicated no matter who they had on the field. They’re a very good team. That’s why they’re on the top of the table in the Korean League.
“We knew it was going to be tough, and we needed to make sure that that we had the right group that played with the right intensity. And I saw that from the beginning.”
Victory now turn their attention to Sunday’s A-League Men season opener against Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand, a fixture that will see the club play three games in the space of eight days.

While the workload being undertaken by his players is certainly more than that of any other side in the competition at present, Savarese believes he has the squad at this disposal to navigate the fixture congestion.
“It gives us a chance to be able to play in this competition, which we wanted to do well, and then we have now the start of the A-League.
“The good thing is that we have a good roster right now to be able to make some rotations, as you saw today, that can keep us competitive in every game.
“Now we enjoy peace tonight, but we’re ready tomorrow to make sure that we have another competitive match on this weekend.”
