Newcastle’s Nordstrand wins Denmark’s Goal of the Year

Newcastle Jets forward Morten Nordstrand has won Goal of the Year at the Danish Football Awards for his stunning bicycle kick for former club AGF.

The Danish Football Association (DBU) announced on Monday (Tuesday morning AEDT) that Nordstrand had won 2015’s Goal of the Year, with the 32-year-old having previously won the same award in 2013 for a similar bicycle kick.

Nordstrand, who joined the Jets in January, was not able to attend the awards night in Copenhagen due to his Hyundai A-League commitments.

Nordstrand’s award-winning strike came in August in the Danish Superliga, with the former FC Copenhagen striker acrobatically sending Kim Aabech’s cross into the net against the club where he won the title in 2008-09.

The goal secured a 2-2 draw for AGF away to Copenhagen. In 2013, Nordstrand’s victorious goal also came against Copenhagen, with the bicycle kick again clinching a 2-2 stalemate, this time for FC Nordsjaelland.

Since joining Newcastle, Nordstrand has scored two goals and notched two assists in eight Hyundai A-League matches.
