Melbourne City head to the Hunter looking for a response from their shock home loss last weekend and get the chance against an improving Newcastle Jets.
City lost ground to league-leaders Sydney FC after their 3-0 loss to Perth Glory so will be desperate to bounce back, while the Jets’ three-game unbeaten run came to an end against Adelaide United.
The Jets have won eight of their last 12 against City at McDonald Jones Stadium but will need to keep the shackles on Jamie Maclaren to continue that run.
Maclaren (nine goals) drew a blank for the first time this season against Glory and has been overtaken in the race for the Golden Boot by Sydney FC’s Adam Le Fondre (10).
A win for the Jets will propel them into the top six, while City will risk falling eight points behind the Sky Blues unless they pick up maximum points in the final match of Round 10.
