Newcastle Jets made it back-to-back wins with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Sydney FC in the Ninja A-League on Saturday.
Sheridan Gallagher’s 42nd-minute strike was all that separated the two teams as the Jets celebrated their first home win over the Sky Blues since 2017, having trumped Sydney on the road earlier this season.

With consecutive wins, 2023-24 Semi-Finalists Newcastle are 10th and seven points outside of the top six, while Sydney remain rooted to the bottom of the standings.

The Jets entered the game having ended their 10-game winless run last week, while Newcastle were eyeing their first home win over the Sky Blues since 2017.
As for Sydney FC, they were out to end their seven-game winless streak on the road, dating back to May last year.
It was an evenly-contested opening period but the Jets edged it and it showed on the scoreboard.
After Tash Prior had a goal ruled out for offside in the 24th minute, Gallagher popped up to break the deadlock three minutes prior to half-time.

Gallagher was on hand to poke the ball into the back of the net from the goal line – her fifth of the season.
It was more of the same in the second half, which featured an A-Leagues debut for 18-year-old Jasmine Black after Bethany Mason-Jones succumbed to injury.
Black was in the thick of it as the teenager produced a fine save to prevent the Jets from moving 2-0 ahead 12 minutes from the end.
