REPORT: Jets into Grand Final as McGree’s insane scorpion kick sparks City’s downfall

  • This was Newcastle’s first Finals Series win since the Grand Final victory over Central Coast Mariners February 17, 2008.

  • It is also the Jets’ first win at McDonald Jones Stadium over City since February 2016 (a 2-1 win in Round 18 in the 2015/16 Season). Since then, there have been two draws and three City wins at the venue.

  • City end the season only winning one of their last games away from home (W1, D1, L2). That victory was in fact against the Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium in Round 25.

  • Warren Joyce’s side only attempted four shots, the equal-least amount of shots they attempted in a match all season. They managed the same number at home to Sydney FC in November.
