Perth Glory came from one goal down to beat Newcastle Jets 2-1 and record their first win of the 2025-26 season at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Newcastle led 1-0 early doors thanks to Xavier Bertoncello’s first-half strike, but Glory responded before the break through Wales international Tom Lawrence, who scored for the first time in his new club’s colours.
At 1-1, Glory looked set to end their three-game losing streak with a draw, before a penalty decision given against Jets defender Daniel Wilmering for a handball in the box gave the visitors the chance to claim all three points on the road.

With co-captain and Socceroos striker Adam Taggart on the pitch, penalty duties surprisingly fell to midfielder Nicholas Pennington, who made no mistake from the spot with a whipped finish into the top-right corner.
Glory travelled to McDonald Jones Stadium off the back of three-straight defeats prior to the international break, but snapped their losing streak in style under interim head coach Adam Griffiths to jump above Newcastle and off the bottom of the Isuzu UTE A-League table.
The result ended Glory’s near-seven-year winless streak against Newcastle away from home, dating back to December 16, 2018 – 2,534 days before Sunday’s 2-1 victory at McDonald Jones Stadium.
