Kiwi international Ridenton departs Newcastle Jets

Joe Ledley’s arrival in the Hunter has spelled the end for Newcastle Jets midfielder Matthew Ridenton.

The Jets and five-cap New Zealand international Ridenton mutually agreed to part ways, before Carl Robinson’s side announced the capture of Wales star Ledley.

The 23-year-old missed the Round 15 clash against Melbourne City while on trial with English Championship club Reading, and six weeks later is out of the door at McDonald Jones Stadium.

After five seasons in his homeland with Wellington Phoenix, Ridenton pulled on the Jets jersey 30 times in the Hyundai A-League.

He scored his only goal for Newcastle in the 5-1 win at Western Sydney Wanderers in February 2019, and featured in nine matches in 2019/20, including five starts.
