Another week, another injured Auckland FC captain in worrying sight for Black Knights

Auckland FC captain Jake Brimmer hurt his shoulder in Saturday night’s breath-taking New Zealand Derby.

Brimmer – wearing the armband in the absence of Hiroki Sakai – appeared to dislocate his shoulder during reigning premiers Auckland’s incredible 2-1 win over rivals Wellington Phoenix, despite playing the final 20 minutes with nine men.

Auckland broke the deadlock after just 28 seconds at Sky Stadium, where fans were treated to an all-time classic.

It was the second consecutive week the Black Knights lost a captain to injury after regular skipper and Japanese star Sakai suffered a hamstring injury in Round 3.

Asked about the injury as Auckland maintained their unbeaten record, Brimmer told Sky Sport New Zealand: “We will wait and see.

“It popped out but they popped it back in.

“Obviously international break next week so we will see what happens from there.”
