Brazilian winger Henrique has signed a three-year contract extension with Brisbane Roar.
The 23-year-old signed a one-year deal last season – but after he impressed for third-placed Roar in the opening games of the new Hyundai A-League season, they have moved to secure his services in the longer term at Suncorp Stadium until 2013.
Henrique has started all six matches this season for coach Frank Farina, scoring twice, and will look to continue his impressive form against Perth Glory on Sunday as the Roar seek to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
“I’m very happy in Australia,” said the former Formiga midfielder, who has also spent time with Feyenoord.
“I feel like the club has really opened its arms to me – I’ve felt comfortable since the first day I arrived.”
“I’m really grateful to Frank Farina and the club to have given me this opportunity. I’ll try to do as much as I can to pay that back throughout my remaining three years.”
Farina has been impressed with Henrique’s technical ability and industry since his arrival in Brisbane.
“He’s shown that he not only adds something to the team but, I think, going forward he’s just going to get better,” said Farina.
“If he lost possession of the ball he would be the first one to chase after it – and that for me shows a player’s character, how they will perform.”
“They’re the sort of players we want to try to keep at this club.”
